Cuban Pianist Ahmed Alom and Calvo's Intermezzo No. 4

In Intermezzo No. 4" by Colombian composer Luis Calvo, Alom uncovers a kaleidoscope of musical colors, expertly threaded together by a distinctly Latin American bittersweetness.
● Cuban-born, New York-based pianist Ahmed Alom’s debut album EXILIO will be released June 2, 2023, under Irreverence Group Music. The album features works by Albéniz, Calvo, Cervantes, Lecuona, Falla, and De La Chica.
In a very unique way, Alom [The minimalist (not mannerist) interpretation of Calvo's four Intermezzos, stands out — Susan Campos, PhD ] and [Alom plays Calvo’s four Intermezzos, arguably the composer’s finest work, with warmth and care, channeling the uncanny combination of charm and emotional distance in the music — George Grella] explores that spirit of resilience that shaped a large part of the work of Colombian composer, whom lived and die in the isolated Colombian town of Agua de Dios, a mass leprosarium—concentration camp style, run by the Colombian government during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. In the recent novel God’s Punishment, Colombian composer Julián De La Chica, highlights the human rights abuses of this dark chapter in Colombia’s history.
