Benjamin Larsen:
The Auschwitz Pieces: For Aniela

Release: Oct 08, 2018

Irreverence Group Music [IGM] presents For Aniela, from The Auschwitz Pieces cycle. Recorded by American cellist Benjamin Larsen and composer Julián De La Chica, the cycle was composed during the summer of 2018, when De La Chica visited Auschwitz for the first time. During his visit, he found himself drawn to photos of prisoners, including Nitke (for whom he composed another piece in the cycle) and Aniela. He composed this piece in her honor on his way back to Krakow on the bus. The photo on the cover is hers, taken by De La Chica himself. De La Chica said: "Dear Aniela, there are no words, but there is music..."

The cycle premiered at Brooklyn's ShapeShifter Lab on August 16, 2018.
