Internationally acclaimed South Korean-born Dutch harpist and Sony Classical artist Lavinia Meijer, together with Irreverence Group Music [IGM], presents Fado, a new recording of No. 4 from Julián De La Chica’s piano cycle Nocturnal & Circular Images, Op. 5.

One of the leading harpists of her generation, Meijer has distinguished herself through a singular approach to the instrument and a longstanding commitment to contemporary music and living composers. With Fado, she brings the work into the harp repertoire in a new solo rendition—intimate, precise and quietly hypnotic.

Meijer and De La Chica first met in New York in 2016 at the annual Philip Glass Gala, following the Tibet House Benefit Concert at Carnegie Hall. Their paths crossed again in 2024, following a performance by Meijer at Public Records in Brooklyn, where the two reconnected.

Fado will be featured in the closing sequence of PIRET, De La Chica’s new award-winning film, set for release in October 2026.

Fado

Composed in 2014 as part of Julián De La Chica’s piano cycle Op. 5, Nocturnal & Circular Images, Fado returns more than a decade later in a new recording by harpist Lavinia Meijer.

Meijer brings the work into the harp repertoire with an interpretation that is intimate, precise, and quietly hypnotic. In her hands, the repetition and stillness at the center of the piece take on a different character, shaped by the resonance, decay, and physical nature of the harp.

The collaboration grew out of a friendship that began in New York in 2016, when Meijer and De La Chica first met around the Philip Glass Gala, and continued after they reconnected in Brooklyn in 2024.

The recording now becomes part of another chapter in the work’s life: Fado accompanies the closing sequence of De La Chica’s new film, PIRET.
